He was a senior researcher at Systems Development Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. before becoming a professor at the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Hosei University, where he runs the Computational Reality Laboratory. In addition to engaging in research and development of XR, CG, and light field displays/cameras, he has served as the ACM VRST 2022 General Chair, as well as the secretary and committee member of numerous domestic and international academic societies, and he has extensive experience in international standardization activities such as ISO/IEC.
Engaged in research and development of 3D displays (parallax barrier, electronic holography, light field display), retinal projection displays (for low vision support, for normal people), and smart textiles (next generation firefighting uniform, biometric sensing). He is a fellow of the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers.
After working for SANYO Electric, Seiko Epson, and Samsung Electronics, he was a visiting professor at Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka Metropolitan University.
Engaged in research and development of technologies related to 3D displays and LCDs, and has experience as the head of the technical committee of the 3D Consortium, an industry organization, and in international standardization activities in ISO/IEC and other organizations.
The company he co-founded in 1987 has been recognized as a pioneer in VR in Japan. Since then, he had served as CTO (until 2009) and 3D Expert (until 2018) for two VR companies. In 1998, he established a joint venture with a Swedish VR company, challenged the business of education and training with VR. In 1999, he was a visiting professor at Shanghai University. He has collaborated with several start-ups in US and EU, also with IT companies in China and India.
